🧺 30-Minute House Reset

30 min

A fast family reset for the nights when the house feels like it got away from you.

KIDS PLAYBOOK

🃏 Family Card-Game Night

20–45 min

Instead of saying “play cards,” the Playbook recommends a real game based on ages, attention span and how competitive everyone feels.

Go FishBest for younger kids • 2–6 players • Ask another player for a rank you already hold; collect sets of four. Great first card game.
Crazy EightsAges ~5+ • 2–7 players • Match the top card by suit or rank; eights are wild. First player to empty their hand wins.
WarVery easy • 2 players • Flip one card each; higher card wins the pile. Ties trigger “war.” Almost no reading or strategy required.
SpoonsAges ~7+ • 3+ players • Pass cards quickly while trying to collect four of a kind, then quietly grab a spoon. Fast, silly and loud.
RummyAges ~8+ • 2–6 players • Build sets and runs from your hand. Better for families wanting a little strategy without complicated rules.

Tonight’s setup: Put a snack bowl in the middle, let the youngest player choose the first game, play best-of-three, and the winner chooses tomorrow night’s dessert.

MONEY PLAYBOOK

💵 The $15 Dinner Challenge

  3. Use one vegetable you already have before buying another.

WEEKEND PLAYBOOK

☀️ Backyard Family Tournament

60–90 min

A nearly free Saturday gameplan that turns ordinary backyard stuff into an event.

  1. Pick 4 events: sock toss, water-bottle bowling, sidewalk-chalk target toss and a short relay.
  2. Give everyone a silly team name and make a paper scoreboard.
  3. Award 3 points for first, 2 for second and 1 for finishing.
  4. Finish with popsicles, popcorn or a family movie. Take one photo for the family memory book.
